‘Tis the season of giving. It’s the most joyous time of the year, right? Well…
Inflation is at its highest point in 40 years. Many families are feeling the financial pain as prices continue to increase. These increases are causing many to retreat and hold onto their money for the things they need most.
So, use your products to bring some cheer to your customers and members this holiday season. Here are a few things your credit union or community bank can gift to consumers.
Economic factors might play a heightened role in holiday spending for many Americans this year. It’ll likely look much different from last year. But consider this -- research shows that consumers put 65% of their holiday expenses on credit cards in 2021.
Christmas is still Christmas. Economy aside, your customers and members still have presents to buy. If your credit union or community bank offers a credit card rewards program, consider doubling the points for them in December.
An opportunity to see a tangible return on all that money spent in the checkout lines might be enough to sway them your way at the register. And sure, that’s great. But more importantly, you’re able to help your members or customers this Christmas.
It sounds odd… buying a car during the holidays? Well, maybe. Dealerships usually cut prices while they try to move all the old inventory off the lot. But remember, buying a new car isn’t a luxury for everyone. There are some families who just need it.
For the month of December, consider gifting your members or customers additional vehicle coverage options like GAP Insurance and Warranties. These kinds of add-ons are great to have, but they’re too expensive for some families to purchase.
The gratification of helping a family out of a financial jam, even if it’s much later down the road, goes a long way in bringing you the joy of the Christmas spirit.
Credit unions and community banks are uniquely positioned to follow through on that principle of ‘service to the community’. Consider running a 12 Days of Christmas special, where each day focuses on giving back to your members or customers.
Refund fees on one day and give great rates on another day. On the fifth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me: Golden Rates. It gives your customers and members something to look forward to when they’re feeling down.
For example, one of our clients is hosting “12 Days of Giving” in December with a focus on community outreach. That outreach includes delivering books to a children’s hospital, delivering warm clothing to a community center and reading to underprivileged kids.
People are physically, mentally, emotionally and financially exhausted after a long year. Nothing’s off the table when it comes to giving. ‘Tis the season, after all. And if you just happen to have partridge in a pear tree lying around, it’s sure to light up some faces with a warm smile.
These are the times when your members and customers need you most. Who you are and what you’re about should come alive through your brand. Transform your brand identity today.
